Cricket's three formats and competitions
T20, ODI and Test — three formats, three different experiences
T20 Cricket
Only 20 overs per team — so the pace of the match is very fast. Leagues like BPL and IPL are particularly popular with Bangladeshi fans. The situation can change with every ball, which keeps betting markets active.
BPL · IPL · T20 WCODI Cricket
In a one-day match both teams bat for 50 overs. The ICC World Cup and bilateral series are played in ODI format. A longer match means various markets open at different points during the game.
ICC WC · Bilateral SeriesTest Cricket
The longest format — five days, two innings each. In the Tigers' Test matches a draw is a possible result, so the market has three options: Team A wins, Team B wins, or draw.
Test Series · ChampionshipIn Bangladesh there is also the opportunity to bet on football, badminton and other sports beyond cricket. With badminton betting, matches are short and depend on a single player, so the markets are different from cricket. In football, betting on the number of goals during a match is more popular, while in cricket over-by-over markets are the main focus.
Popular betting markets and examples
The most commonly used cricket betting markets at tk11
Match Winner
Choosing which of the two teams will win. In T20 and ODI there are only two options (Team A or Team B); in Test there are three (Team A, Team B or draw).
Toss Winner
Which team will win the toss before the match starts — essentially a 50-50 market. If the toss is particularly important given ground conditions, the odds may shift slightly.
Top Batsman
Which player will score the most runs for a team in the match. For example, if Team A has three batsmen listed, there are three options each with their own separate odds.
Total Runs
Predicting whether the total runs in an innings or across the whole match will be more (over) or less (under) than a given number. Pitch and weather conditions play a big role in this market.
Multi Bet
Combining multiple matches or markets together. If all selections are correct the total return is higher, but if even one is wrong the entire bet is lost. See the detailed odds example below.
In-Play Markets
Betting while the match is in progress. How many runs will be scored in the next over, which batsman will be dismissed next — these markets are available in the live betting section.
How to understand odds in three formats
Decimal, fractional and American — three ways of expressing the same price
On a betting site the same odds can be shown in three ways. All three formats express the same probability; only the way they are written differs.
Example 1 — Team A to win (৳1,000 bet)
| Format | Odds | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Decimal | 2.25 | Total return of ৳2,250 on a win (৳1,250 profit + ৳1,000 stake) |
| Fractional | 5/4 | Bet ৳4 to profit ৳5 |
| American | +125 | ৳125 profit on a ৳100 bet |
If you lose, the entire ৳1,000 is gone.
Example 2 — Team B (favourite), ৳1,000 bet
Decimal 1.25 = Fractional 1/4 = American −400. A win returns a total of ৳1,250 (profit of only ৳250), because the favourite's odds are lower. A negative American odds figure means how much you need to bet to profit ৳100 — here you need to stake ৳400 to profit ৳100.
Live In-Play Betting — odds change over by over
Live betting is the most active cricket experience. After the match starts, odds change instantly with every wicket, every big six, or when rain arrives.
Say Team A has been set a target of 200 runs. If they reach 80 in 10 overs the chances are even, but if 4 wickets have fallen Team A's odds will rise and Team B's will fall. If you can read the flow of the match, in-play betting adds a different dimension.
Keep in mind though — in in-play betting there is very little time to make decisions. Rather than rushing to increase your bet amount, set your budget in advance. Betting is for entertainment, not a way to recover losses.

Some tips for staying informed while betting
A few simple habits for recreational betting
Set your budget first. Decide how much you will spend in each session before you start and do not go beyond that limit.
Understand the format. The pace of T20 and Test matches is completely different — focus on the markets where you feel comfortable in the format you know.
Be careful with multi bets. Three selections at 1.40 × 1.60 × 1.90 = 4.26 combined odds — a chance to return ৳426 on a ৳100 bet, but if one selection is wrong you lose the entire ৳100.
No rushing in live betting. Odds change quickly during a match — make decisions within your own budget.
Stay responsible. Betting is a form of entertainment. More betting is not the answer when you have lost. If needed, read the responsible gaming guidelines.
